CROIX ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
MAY 2025

NATOFLORINE

At the heart of South London’s ever-evolving creative scene stands Natoflorine — a rising talent, born in Lewisham, helping to reshape the city’s underground music landscape. Drawing inspiration from his Mauritian roots, relationships, and the multicultural influences of a London upbringing, Natoflorine’s music offers a raw, authentic reflection of both himself and those around him. In February of this year, Croix sat down with the emerging talent to talk family, culture, and fashion.

Croix Magazine - Artist Spotlight May 2025

How has your culture impacted the way you’re establishing your own sound and style?

NF: “Growing up with Mauritian parents—especially my dad—there were always big parties and barbecues, and we were surrounded by family and friends from all different cultures. Most of them were people he had met when he first moved to England—working-class communities. All these cultures came together, cooking all this food, and of course, there was a lot of musical influence: Sega, reggae, afro-beats, etc

My sister Kash and I used to watch a lot of music videos after school, like on Kiss and Kerrang. I’ve definitely been surrounded by music of all genres and styles. It’s good to reflect on that, but sometimes you forget you’ve had these moments in life that play a part in what you end up doing—you can get lost in the fog.”

Any dream collaborations?

NF: “So many, man, so many... Um, Imma start off on a more local basis — Renelle893 (@renelle.c0m), met him a few times, sound guy, legend. My bruddah, Sai-Ming (@saimingggg), as well, from way back, doing his ting too. Then, on a UK rap basis, CASISDEAD, 100%. Across the pond, my boy Lil Wayne—that’s my GOAT—and of course, I love The Weeknd so we’ll see if that happens... one can dream.”

Where would you place yourself as an artist out of today’s current lineup?

NF: “I’m kind of doing my own thing, especially with the stuff I’ve been working on recently. Really delving into different sounds, merging UK rap and grime elements with soulful American samples, and some jazz involved. We’re just cooking. Me and my guy Jack (@jack____g), have just been cooking in the studio.”

How has fashion played a part in your story so far?

NF: “I’ve always liked clothes, bro. I guess I can trace it back to the music video stuff—when I was young, you’d see people like Justin Timberlake wearing a waistcoat and dancing, and it looked so cold to a six-year-old watching it on TV. It’s always been something to look up to, always a kind of shining light. It’s easy to get hypnotised by it, but I think I’ve always had my own style. I used to get stick for it in secondary school—you know how people can take the piss. But that’s how you know you’re showing who you are and you’ve just got to own that difference, you know?”

This is a platform to highlight London talent and local creatives, are there any that have recently caught your eye?

NF: “Ooh theres a few, alot of them are my G’s, big up Bill (@bubblerby8) for just being the best bubbler ever, man is everywhere, putting in the work everywhere putting different artists in the spotlights. My bruddah Max, (@maxmckenzie) , hes a comedian, cold guy. My bro OSK, (@oskmusik) doing his ting, Big up everyone man, its hard out here and you really got to keep that dream alive.”
